Central California Zone - United States Water Polo

To all Central  Cal Zone  Referees:

The USWP ODP (Olympic Development Program) has started the 2010 year. There have been tryouts during the past two weeks. It is important if you intend to ref any USWP event you register for the 2010 year and complete a Water Polo Academy course if you have not done so .  There will be more changes to the officiating program announced following the January ODP meeting in Los Angeles. I will send those out following the meeting.

There are new FINA rules adopted by USWP following the World Championships in Rome this past summer. You can download a copy from our CenCal web site as well as the USWP officials site  or the SCAFWP website.

There is an ODP calendar for the Central Cal Zone.  Practices for the various age groups will be conducted at different locations over the next several months with a Championship held Memorial Day Weekend. Last year we sent one official from our Zone to each of the four camps around the country for instruction and observation to further individual opportunity of advancement within the USWP program.

There will be clinics and evaluations set up during the ODP training process in addition to the tournaments that are regularly held in our Zone.  I encourage you  to participate in the ODP process as a referee if you have any desire to advance within USWP. The respective coaches will have set schedules that will require officiating help during their practices  and there is no better time to gain some practice yourself without the pressures of a game situation.

We are targeting the first clinic  during  a mini-tournament on Saturday, January 23 at Pitman HS in Turlock. I will forward more information about the tournament and the clinic as soon as it is available.  The winter tournament season starts in two weeks with approximately 8 sites available for assignments in Northern California.  There will be more information on these tournament forthcoming as well.
